http://www.clubbrugge.beReactions after Club Brugge - WesterloAfter a tough game, the victory was Club’s main concern. Below some reactions from several players and both coaches.
Joseph AKPALA
"This is an important win "
Last week still man of the match in Genk but against Westerlo the Nigerian was rather unlucky in his actions: "This is an important win after a tough game. The three points are all that matter. The first half was not good, but we were much more concentrated in the second half, just like the coach asked. Although I did not score, I am really pleased that I helped to obtain this victory, which is good for our confidence."(KN)
Stijn STIJNEN:
"Resultats are there "
With some excellent saves Stijnen prevented Club from taking a goal against: "We started weakly but then we created some chances and got better into the game. Thanks to a handsbal we scored the 1-0, but we have to admit that they played better than us in the first half. Luckily the second half was better and Wesley made a wonderful second goal. We also should not forget that this is our fourth game in 8 days and that we gain results. We now got 7 on 9 in the three last games, with 4 on 6 at home, you have to be pleased with that. Now we have to eliminate Bern." (MDK)
Bernt EVENS
"Wesley is gaining the results from his hard work "
With the suspension of Klukowski, Bernt Evens started the game against his former team mates. "We really needed this victory today and kept fighting for it. Wesley scored his first two goals of the seasons. Last year was a tough year for him, but he kept working hard, and now he is gaining the results. The group looks forward to the game on Thursday. We know that we can be drawn against difficult teams, but we have to qualify for the next round." (KN)
Ronald VARGAS
"Such a strange game "
Just like the rest of his team, Ronald Vargas was only able to put his mark on the game in the second half and demonstrate his nickname ‘La Perla': "Such a strange game. It was like we were still sleeping in the first half. However, we created many chances in the second half and could have scored more, I had two good opportunities. On Thursday we have to play better if we want to qualify." (MV)
Nabil DIRAR
"Penalty on the right moment "
Nabil Dirar also played for the first time against his former team: "Westerlo was well organised and started with offensive intentions, but luckily for us they did not manage to score. The penalty was really on the right moment, and in the second half, we played much better. Hopefully my last pass will be better in Thursday’s game." (MV)
Wesley SONCK
"Victory is most important "
By scoring two goals, Wesley Sonck named himself man of the match. In the company of his oldest son he was happy to give interviews to press: "The first fifteen minutes Westerlo was by far the best team and Stijn saved us several times. After that penalty they were still dominating, I felt that we did not play high enough, and gave too much space away on the central midfield. Yet, we changed our play in the second half. The 2-0 victory is all what counts in these busy weeks. 11 points on 15 is a good result." (MV)
Jan Ceulemans was really deceived after the game.
"Before half time we played great football and created enough opportunities, but we still took a goal against! I really had the feeling that we were dominating Club, but a decision form the referee decided things differently. After the break, we had to take risks and Club could counter. After the second goal things were over for us;
"Still the ref is not the only one to blame, when you create so many chances, we should be able to score.(NB)
Jacky Mathijssen was not pleased despite the 2-0 victory.
"We did not make it difficult to our opponent, we can be really pleased that they did not score in the first half and our lead was undeserved. At half time I did some tactical changes, and we were much more dangerous, but still lacked efficiency. Luckily we could count once again on a great Stijnen".
"Thanks to this win, we have a better feeling for Thursday’s game, but we still have to work hard this week if we want to improve our negative things. We will try to give everything in order to offer good football to our fans, the club and Belgian football ", concluded Mathijssen. (NB)
