Club cannot beat Dender

Club Brugge couldn't win its home game against FC Dender. Jeroen Simaeys equalized the score ten minutes for the end. Steven De Petter had scored for Dender in the first half.

In comparison to the game against Tubeke Ronald Vargas started the game, replacing the injured Vermeulen. The Venezuelan midfielder enjoyed the fans with some nice actions. The first great chance was for Vargas, but goalkeeper Martinovic was attentive. Instead of 1-0, it was Dender who scored first. Stijn Stijnen, one of the better players at the national team the past week, couldn't reach to the cross pass and captain Steven De Petter could easily head the ball into the goal.

Blauw-Zwart took control again, but this didn't result into chances. On the contrary, it was Dender again who could threathen via Smajic, but Stijnen was more attentive this time. Club pressed more and more during the final quarter of the first half. First Clement shot a rebound over the goal and some minutes later Simaeys headed only just next to the goal. Five minutes before the break the public saw the best chance: Vargas passed to Akpala, whose header hit goal post.

After the break more or less the same story. Only in 6Oth minute Club came near the visiting goalie. Nabil Dirar rushed past everyone, but his hard kick flew over the crossbar thanks to Martinovic. Fifteen minutes later Club was close tot the equalizer, but again Martinovic had a great reflex on a shot from Sonck.

Dender almost scored for a second time. Club pressed more and more, which also led to more space in the back of the defense. Sylla's shot was luckily saved on the goal line by Ciman. Ten minutes before the end Club finally scored the 1-1, when Jeroen Simaeys headed a corner from Leko into the goal. Club tried to the three points, but got no more good chances. Club will have to change its tune if they want to beat Bern next Thursday. (SF)

Komm ans Spiel! - YB spielt erstmals seit 13 Jahren im UEFA-Cup

Endlich stehen «wir» wieder einmal in der ersten Runde des UEFA-Cups. Letztmals war dies im Herbst 1993 der Fall. Damals schied YB mit Kobel, Bregy, Weber, Baumann, Kunz und Co. erst nach einem grossartigen Kampf in Glasgow gegen Celtic in der Verlängerung aus.

Nun winkt die Chance, erstmals in die Gruppenphase des UEFA-Cups vorzustossen - allerdings müsste YB dazu das belgische Spitzenteam Club Brugge eliminieren. Es ist für alle YB-Mitglieder und Fans hoffentlich Ehrensache, die Mannschaft am nächsten Donnerstag im Stadion zu unterstützen.

YB muss europäisch mitspielen - dieser Wunsch der Berner Zuschauer ist von der Mannschaft erfüllt worden. Die Qualifikation für die Hauptrunde gegen den ungarischen Spitzenverein Debreceni VSC (4:1 und 3:2) schaffte «unser» Team mit zwei tollen Auftritten. Es brennt darauf, mit Ihrer Unterstützung auch im Spiel gegen Brügge wieder einmal ein Kapital Europacup-Geschichte zu schreiben.

Als YB-Mitglied geniessen Sie auf Ihren Plätzen ein Vorkaufsrecht. Die Ticketpreise haben wir angesichts der Hoffnung, dass die Mannschaft von möglichst vielen eigenen Fans unterstützt werden soll, im Vergleich zur Meisterschaft nicht angehoben. Im Gegenteil: Mitglieder erhalten 20 Prozent Rabatt auf den üblichen Preisen, Kinder bezahlen nur 10 Franken. Das Vorkaufsrecht ist bis am Mittwoch, 17.09.2008, gültig.

YB erstmals seit September 1993 wieder im UEFA-Cup

Der BSC Young Boys hat sich mit zwei Siegen gegen den ungarischen Cupsieger Debreceni VSC (4:1 und 3:2) erstmals seit 1993 wieder für den UEFA-Cup qualifiziert. Vor einem Jahr scheiterten die Berner in der Qualifikation am RC Lens, nachdem Banants Eriwan ausgeschaltet worden war. Vor zwei Jahren bedeutete Olympique Marseille für YB Endstation in der Qualifikation. Im Sommer 2004 schieden die Young Boys in der Champions League-Qualifkation gegen Roter Stern Belgrad aus.

Letztmals nahmen die Berner vor 15 Jahren im Uefa-Cup-Hauptwettbewerb teil: Im September 1993 spielten sie gegen Celtic Glasgow. Die Partien endeten in Bern 0:0 und in Glasgow 0:1 nach Verlängerung. Das YB-Team von damals: Kobel; Weber, Rotzetter, Streun; Reich, Baumann, Bregy, Heinz Moser, Ippoliti; Agostino (103. Porfido), Kunz (93. Gerber).
